What surf foil?

The height of your mast, as well as the surface area of the wings are to be chosen. To begin with, the preferred height is between 60 and 70 cm. Beyond that, you risk a sudden uncontrollable movement.

Here is an example of the parameters of your surf foil, according to the size of a rider:

  • Average size between 70 and 75 kg.
  • Volume in litres: 35 to 50 L.
  • Size and surfaces: mast from 60 to 70 cm and wing of about 1200 cm².
  • Necessary equipment: wetsuit, bootie and a helmet.

The front wing lift of the surf foil can vary according to the following criteria:

  • The wing surface
  • The thickness of the wing

We often tend to reason only in terms of surface area in relation to a template on the choice of the front wing. However, several parameters must be taken into account such as wingspan, thickness… Indeed, these different criteria have a direct influence on the lift. Thus a 1,700 cm2 wing of an A brand can have more than one lift than a 2,000 cm2 wing of a B brand. In order to help you make the right choice from our ALPHA range, you can let yourself be guided through this questionnaire and know exactly which foil is right for you.

Are you hesitating about the choice of the surf foil range?

So here’s a questionnaire to help you. Thanks to your answers we will be able to guide you in the best way to choose your foil!

What wave?

If you are new to surf foil, then you should know that the height of the wave is not important to improve your surfing. Much less the slope. These two criteria are far from being very important to start with.

It’s a little more complicated. We’re talking about energy delivered by a wave. If the wave breaks quickly, then the energy will be transmitted and absorbed by the foam. In this case you may not fly. On the other hand, the perfect wave will be the one, far from and not yet fully formed. If this wave has a constant energy then you can achieve a perfect take off.
